What To Expect

New Orleans music historian Jack Stewart will explore the lives of Italian-Americans in the French Quarter through the lens of famed 20th century sound engineer and FQ business owner Cosimo Matassa. Learn about how Cosimo’s ethnic heritage informed his approach to the burgeoning New Orleans music scene in the 1940s and 50s and discover his connections to over 350+ influential Italian-American musicians who helped develop New Orleans rhythm and blues, jazz, and rock n’ roll. Mr. Stewart conducted hours of personal interviews with Mr. Matassa, which inform this lecture. If you love music, this event is not to be missed!

Jack Stewart is a New Orleans general contractor, music historian, and author. He is also co-founder and front-man for The New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra, a local local jazz and ragtime revivalist group. Jack has been a New Orleans preservation advocate since the early 1970s.
